Upper Dolpo Trek
28 Days of Trekking in the most remote part of the Himalayas
Upper Dolpo is a remote region in far western Nepal that was lost to the outside world. Upper Dolpo caught the attention of the outside world because of the book The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen. Later the movie The Caravan placed the Upper Dolpo region on the radar of the outside world. Closed to the outside world until 1989, the land of Upper Dolpo still exhibits a unique presence in the Himalayas that is found nowhere else.
This is a remote area. Located in far-western Nepal, it is known for its vibrantly blue lakes, wild yaks and high mountain vistas. It is situated west of Mt. Dhaulagiri, the 7th highest mountain in the world. The journey crosses several very high passes for unsurpassed mountain scenery that cannot be rivaled anywhere in the world.
This is a 28 day camping trek as the region lacks tea houses. It is an opportunity to trek during the day while in the evening enjoy dinner around the campfire as the sun sets and a myriad of stars display themselves in the perfect night skies.
You are on the path definitely less traveled. You will rarely see other foreign visitors, but you will delight in meeting the local people as they smile and offer you a cup of hot tea.
Upper Dolpo is a truly wonderful place to behold here in far-western Nepal. It is a challenging trek, filled with incredible wonders and scenery that will leave you in awe.
If you are looking for a different kind of trek, then consider the Upper Dolpo Trekking Adventure. You will not regret your decision to walk the path few trekkers will ever see. And if you’re lucky, you may even see the beautiful snow leopard who still lives in this very remote area.
