ABC/Pokhara Trek
11 Days of stunning scenery & culture in the amazing Annapurnas of Pokhara
The lakeside city of Pokhara and the stunning Annapurna Mountains quickly become everyone’s favorite destination to visit in Nepal. The stunning skyline of the Annapurnas are the most distinctive of the Himalayan mountain ranges. Annapurna I (elev. 8,091 m/26,545 ft) is the 10th highest mountain in the world. Yet what dominates the skyline is Mt. Machhapurchhre (Fishtail Mountain) which literally looks like an upended fish. This is all part of the amazing ABC/Pokhara Trek.
Pokhara is known as the lakeside city because it is located on the eastern shore of the lovely Phewa Lake. This large, beautiful mountain lake reflects the beauty of the Annapurnas on its mirror like waters. The trek takes you through a myriad of eco-systems as the trail rises from sub-tropical to alpine. The maximum elevation is at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) at 4,130 m (13,549 ft.)
The ABC/Pokhara Trek combines incredible alpine beauty with wonderful flora and fauna. The lower parts of the trail pass through villages and past farms of the amazing Gurung people. These tribal people have been the backbone of the Gurkha soldiers of the British Army for nearly 200 years. Known as the world’s fiercest fighters, they also are known for incredible hospitality. They will welcome you to their homes and villages as you make your way to ABC.
Summit International Travels and Tours can make the ABC/Pokhara Trek a reality for you. It is considered a good beginners trek with scenery that will delight any trekker who desires both adventure and incredible alpine beauty. Book the ABC trek today!

Rise refreshed from a good night’s sleep at your deluxe hotel in Kathmandu. Following breakfast, your guide will pick you up with a private car and take you to the domestic airport to fly to the lakeside city of Pokhara. It is a short, 30 minute flight over the very backbone of the mighty Himalayas as you look down upon Mt. Manaslu (8th highest mountain in the world) along with the ranges of the Ganesh Himal and finally seeing the amazing Annapurna Mountains.
You deplane and ride to NayaPul to start your trek. Pokhara is only 827 meters (2700 ft.) in elevation and you will notice sub-tropical vegetation as you start your trek. We will trek through villages and past farms to reach the pretty village of Ghandruk which is our destination for the night. Ghandruk is a Gurung village and if time permits, we will tour the Gurung Museum that is here to learn more about their unique mountain culture. Trekking time is 5 – 6 hours.
DAY 3 – TREK TO CHHOMRONG (elev. 2170 m/7,120 ft.)
Our first day of trekking was low elevation trekking, but today we rise enough to enjoy some awesome views of the Annapurnas. While we continue to pass through villages, we can easily see the peaks of Annapurna South, Fishtail (Machhapuchhre) and Gangapurna. The first part of the trail is uphill, then we drop into the Kimrong Khola (river) valley. We climb again and then its finally a gentle walk to reach the village of Chhomrong. Trekking time is around 5 – 6 hours; in the evening we will enjoy dinner and spend the night at a local tea house.
DAY 4 – TREK TO BAMBOO (elev. 2310 m/7,578 ft.)
The route we are traveling is literally the “highway” of the mountains. Everything here is moved by carrying baskets strapped to their foreheads, or by donkey trains. The local people have built stone steps to make travel easier in these mountains and today we will see lots of steps. We will pass through the dense Kuldihar forest with views of the mountains along the way. Our destination is the village of Bamboo where we will enjoy dinner and the hospitality of a local guest house. Trekking time is 4 – 5 hours.
DAY 5 – TREK TO DEURALI (elev. 3230 m/10,595 ft.)
Today is a lot of climbing as we leave the bamboo forests around Bamboo, stepping into the open elevations above. We are leaving the forests behind as we pass above the tree line. We see some wonderful views from the higher elevations as we look down into lush, green valleys below us. We spot some beautiful waterfalls that cascade down the sides of the mountains. We will arrive at Deurali to spend the night. Trekking time is 3 – 4 hours.
DAY 6 – ABC (elev. 4,130 m/13,545 ft.)
Today is the most strenuous day as we make our way to the high elevations of Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). We will hike past Machhapuchhre Base Camp where the views of the Annapurnas are second to none. The higher we climb, the less we see of vegetation. From up here, we can see a 360° panoramic view of the snowcapped peaks. We will spend the night here at Annapurna Base Camp where we can see the stars of the Himalayan night sky twinkling overhead. You will never see such an amazing view as you will of the night skies here, far away from the city lights. Trekking time is 3 – 4 hours.
DAY 7 – RETURN TO BAMBOO (elev. 2310 m/7,578 ft.)
Today starts the return trip as we wake up and smell the fresh alpine air of ABC. We will be descending down the trail today as we make our way back to Bamboo. The first part of the trail is downhill with truly splendid views. After lunch, we start to enter the dense before we arrive at our guest house at Bamboo. Trekking time is 5 – 6 hours.
DAY 8 – TREK TO JHINU DANDA (elev. 1760 m/5,770 ft.)
Jhinu Danda is popular with trekkers because of its hot springs where we can spend some time at the end of today’s trek soaking in its warm, soothing waters. We climb uphill for part of the way then it’s a big drop in elevation to reach Jhinu Danda. Trekking time is 5 – 6 hours, before we arrive at our guest house to soak in the hot waters, eat dinner and then off to bed.
DAY 9 – TREK TO NAYA PUL, DRIVE TO POKHARA
It’s our final day of trekking as we make our way to our starting point of NayaPul. The scenery here is quite charming as we look at the lower elevations of the Annapurna Mountains. There are beautiful farms and valleys with wonderful villages we will pass through. It will take us around 6 hours to reach NayaPul. Here we take a vehicle to our hotel in Pokhara where we can get a hot shower and a great night’s sleep in a good bed.
DAY 10 – FLY TO KATHMANDU
We awake from a good night’s sleep and after breakfast, its off to the airport to catch our 30 minute flight back to the capital. The rest of the day is a free day to do what you would like. There is so much to do in the Kathmandu Valley. You can go shopping for wonderful local souvenirs and handicrafts. See some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites the Valley is famous for. Or you can just relax reading a good book at your hotel’s roof garden.
