DAY 18 – Departure
DAY 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu – Your flight will arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, where you will be greeted with a representative of our company and taken to your hotel to rest from your long flight.
DAY 2 – Daman – Following breakfast, your trip will take you to the mountain village of Daman. Situated at 2100 m (7500 ft) above sea level, the village is the best place to see the Himalayan Mountains. On top of the mountain is a viewing tower where you can see for over 300 miles, with an incredible panoramic view of Mt. Everest, the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Langtang, Tibet and more. You will spend the night here at the resort.
DAY 3 – Chitwan – The day begins with a sunrise over the mountains as the snow-capped peaks go from gray to pink to finally a brilliant white. This day will be a day of descending as you travel to the Terai region, home to the jungles of Nepal. Our destination is Chitwan National park, home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, the rare one-horned rhino, and other exotic jungle animals. This will be a day of orientation to Chitwan's unique ecology as well as the culture of the Tharu people who reside in the Chitwan area.
DAY 4 – Chitwan National Park – This is a day in the jungle. While tiger sightings are not common (they are shy animals, but you can be sure they saw you!), seeing the one-horned rhino is much more likely. These big animals can best be seen on the back of an elephant, which you will ride as you tour the park. The elephants are quite friendly, and like humans, as you ride on top of these massive beasts. There will be time to explore different parts of the park, look for animals and birds while checking the river for two varieties of crocodiles. Don't worry – the crocodiles prefer the local game to humans. The rare gharial crocodile may look especially vicious with its incredibly long snout, but it prefers fish as its main diet. You will also get a chance to participate in the Elephant bath. You can watch on shore, or if you're brave enough, go out with the trainers as the elephants bathe in the Rapti River. If you go in, plan on getting wet! The elephants get wet, and they want to make sure you don't miss your bath as well.
DAY 5 – Lumbini – Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, and is a world heritage site. The trip is about five hours east of Chitwan. The afternoon will be spent touring Lumbini. It is one of the holiest places in Buddhism, with its tranquil atmosphere, temples, and serenity. This will be a spiritual high for any visitor. This includes an overnight stay.
DAY 6 – Palpa Tansen – The trip now turns west as you travel to the mountain village of Palpa Tansen. Located on the hill called Shreengar Danda, it is a wonderful Himalayan village where you can see Mt. Dhaulagiri, one of the highest peaks in the world. The snowcapped peak of Dhaulagiri is inspiring. It is hard to imagine that just last night you were in the jungles of Nepal. Overnight in Tansen.
DAY 7 – Pokhara – Pokhara is an incredible mountain city, located on the eastern shores of Lake Phewa where the snowcapped peaks of the Annapurna Mountains reflect in the tranquil blue waters of the lake. Optional tours can be taken to Begnas and Rupa Lakes where the snowcapped peaks also reflect into the tranquil waters. Most visitors never make it to Rupa Lake, so you will have this experience much to yourself. Others can choose an optional three-hour trek from Sarangkot or Hyangia. Sarangkot offers an incredible view from the viewing tower on top of the mountain of the Himalayas.
DAY 8 – Hyanja Valley – This is the start of a two-day trekking tour here in the Pokhara area. No visit to Nepal is complete without some kind of trek, and this one will immerse you into the great scenery of the Annapurnas. The trek will take you through the beautiful Hyanja Valley. Pokhara is relatively low for Nepal, so as you trek you will pass through a variety of ecological environments. Spend the night at the mountain village of Tirkhedhunga. Trekking time is 4 -5 hours.
DAY 9 – Tirkhedhunga to Ghorepani (elev. 9300 ft) Today's trek will be between 6 – 7 hours. The trail first descends from Tirkhedhunga to the river and then up a steep walk to Ulleri Village. The trail passes through rhododendron forests to overlooks of Mt. Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri as well as other mountains of the Annapurna range. You will spend the night at Ghorepani.
DAY 10 – Ghorepani to Tatopani (elev. 3900 ft.) The Nepali word for water is "pani" and the towns literally mean you are going from cold water to hot water. The trail is primarily downhill most of the day as you cross the rivers of Ghar Khola and Kali Gandaki. The trail follows the west bank of the Kali Gandaki to Tatopani, where you can bathe in the hot springs there. Spend the night in Tatopani. Walking time is 4 -5 hours.
DAY 11 – Tatopani to Ghasa/Larjung (elev. 6600 ft.) – Yesterday was downhill, but today will be a day of ascending past beautiful waterfalls, overlooking the deep gorge of the Kali Gandaki, quaint villages and pine forests. The elevation climbs to 9200 ft, and then down again to 6,000 ft at the village of Ghasa. Trekking time is 5 -6 hours.
DAY 12 – Larjung to Jomsom (elev. 8900 ft.) – It's back uphill again, with more incredible views of the mountains. The trail crosses the Lete Khola (river via a wooden bridge, and then through various villages until you reach Jomsom and the Jomsom Mountain Resort. Trekking time is 5 – 6 hours.
DAY 13 – Jomsom – This day is a loop as you walk 5 – 6 hours, passing through the village of Khanti (8500 ft) and up to Pass Syang (9000 ft) and on to the main village of Jomsom. Jomsom is a pleasant village, with plenty to do. Spend the night again at Jomsom Mountain Resort.
DAY 14 – Jomsom – This is another day in the Jomsom area, where you will trek to a number of small villages and follow the Kali Gandaki River. Overnight again in Jomsom Mountain Resort.
DAY 15 – Return to Pokhara – Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara where you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city. Today will include a boat ride on Lake Phewa and a visit to the Hindu temple on the only island in the lake. Spend the night in Pokhara.
DAY 16 – Return to Kathmandu – It is only a 30-minute flight to Kathmandu, but what a flight! The flight path takes you along the southern edge of the Himalayas. The afternoon will be spent site-seeing in Kathmandu, including a visit to Swayambrunath Temple.
DAY 17 – Kathmandu – This day will see some more of the world heritage sites, including the sacred temple of Pashupatinath. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also a visit to the Buddhist Stupa of Boudhanath, which is one of the largest stupas in the world. The evening will feature a Special Nepalese Dinner at a local restaurant where you will have a chance to sample the best of Nepali foods.
DAY 18 – Departure – Yes, it's time to leave. The good news is that while this has been an overview of Nepal, there is plenty to still see and do on your next trip to Nepal. Most visitors return for additional trips to this mountain paradise.
