DAY 10 – SUNRISE AND DEPARTURE

Trip itinerary:

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU (elev. 1350 m/4,429 ft.)
The long flight is now coming to an end. You can feel the plane starting to descend as you gaze out your window and see the magnificent snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas. The plane circles over the Kathmandu Valley with its lush, green countryside. Your heart begins to race in excitement as you are now entering the magical land of Nepal.
The plane touches down on the runway. It’s time to deplane, pass through passport control, grab your baggage and its out the door into the good, crisp Himalayan air. Suddenly you spot your name on a sign. It’s your friends from Summit International Travel & Tours who have come with a private vehicle to take you to your hotel for dinner and a good night’s sleep.

DAY 2 – MOUNTAIN FLIGHT AND TOURING IN KATHMANDU VALLEY
You rise refreshed from a sound sleep. There’s something about the night air in Kathmandu that makes everyone sleep soundly! Enjoy breakfast and then your ride comes to take you to the domestic airport for the famous Mountain Flight. Today you fly over the very backbone of the eastern Himalayas in order to circle Mt. Everest, the world’s highest mountain. Rising to an elevation of 8,848 meters (29,029 ft.), it is a massive mountain that will leave you in awe. Every seat on this flight is a window seat, so you will have great views all the time.

The plane circles the mountain and then returns to Kathmandu. The rest of the day is sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley. You can choose from seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites to see. There will be time to visit just two or three, depending upon which ones you choose. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with your friends at Summit International Travels & Tours. We wait until the second night to do the welcome dinner so you can be fully rested. We enjoy a special cultural program along with top notch traditional Nepali food.

DAY 3 – TRAVEL TO POKHARA (elev. 827 m/2,713 ft.)
We leave the legendary city of Kathmandu for the magnificent beauty of the city of Pokhara. Located in the western part of Nepal, it is probably everyone’s favorite place. It’s the lakeside city as it is located on the eastern shore of Phewa Lake. It’s mirror like waters reflect the absolute beauty of snowcapped peaks of the Annapurnas. We travel over the pass leaving the Kathmandu Valley and through the Trisuli River gorge. We turn westward at Mugling and travel to Pokhara, arriving at our hotel for the night. It takes us around six hours to reach Pokhara, with amazing views of mountains, raging rivers and waterfalls all along the way.

DAY 4 – SIGHTSEEING IN POKHARA
We rise early for a trip to the top of Sarangkot Hill to watch a spectacular sunrise over the Annapurna Mountains. We climb to the viewpoint before sunrise to watch the mountain peaks go from grey to red to brilliant white!
The rest of day is spent touring the scenic places in Pokhara. These include Devi Falls where the water disappears underground after traveling through a box canyon. There are beautiful views from on top of the Buddhist Peace Pagoda. Find world class museums, walk along the lake, take a boat ride. You choose your activities as you discover the wonders of Pokhara.

DAY 5 – TRAVEL TO CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK (elev. 415 m/1,362 ft.)
We say goodbye to the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara as we now head to Chitwan National Park. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its wildlife. We travel around six hours today to reach Sauraha, the gateway to Chitwan where we find our hotel to check in for two nights. In the evening, we take in a Tharu cultural program. The Tharus are the people who have traditionally inhabited the Terai region of Nepal.

DAY 6 – SIGHTSEEING IN CHITWAN
We rise early to take an elephant safari deep into the park to look for the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. This is their home, along with the endangered Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. Tigers are elusive, but no doubt we’ll see the rhinos along with many other jungle animals. After the elephant safari, its time to take a trip down the Rapti river in a dugout canoe. We look for wild animals coming to drink along the river. We even see a crocodile or two sunning themselves along the riverbank.

In the evening, enjoy dinner and your second night here in the jungle.

DAY 7 – TRAVEL TO LUMBINI (elev. 150 m/492 ft.)
Lumbini is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. It was here that his mother, traveling back to their home gave birth to young Siddhartha Gautama. His birthplace has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site with pilgrims coming from around the world to pay homage to this great man of peace. Countries from around the world have built monasteries here, each reflecting their unique culture. We will visit here, spending the night in Lumbini.

DAY 8 – TRAVEL TO KATHMANDU
It’s a day of traveling as we return to Kathmandu. We pass Chitwan area and then upwards along the main road through the Trisuli River valley and over the top of the pass to reach Kathmandu. We will spend one night here in the city.

DAY 9 – TRAVEL TO NAGARKOT (elev. 2175 m/7,136 ft.)
Tonight we are going to watch the most magnificent of sunsets from the top of Nagarkot Hill on the northeastern side of the Kathmandu Valley. But before we get there, we will tour the amazing city of Bhaktapur. The entire city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site  because of its artwork. It contains many temples plus the old royal palace with 55 intricately carved windows. We tour and then continue on our journey to Nagarkot. We check into our hotel, and then go to the roof to watch the sunset over the Himalayas.

DAY 10 – SUNRISE AND DEPARTURE
We rise this morning before the sun is up in order to catch the most impressive of sunrises. From up here, we can see on clear days all the way from Mt. Everest in the east to Mt. Dhaulagiri (7th highest mountain) in the far west. There are 14 mountains in the world over 8000 meters and from here you can see seven of them. The entire range of Himalayan mountains go from grey to suddenly bright red as the effulgent rays of the morning sun first shoot above the snowcapped peaks. The peaks finally turn a brilliant white as you stand there in amazement.

Enjoy breakfast, and then its off to the airport to fly to your next destination. You’ve had a wonderful time in Nepal, and no doubt wish you could come back. And why not?
